Innovend
Project Highlight: Innovend (Zuply)
One of my most exciting projects as a freelance full stack software developer is with Innovend, the company behind Zuply. Based in Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands, Zuply is a leader in creating smart dispensing and intake systems. Think vending machines, but a whole lot smarter! From locker systems for food purchases to product collection and distribution, Zuply offers high-tech, flexible solutions for various international industries.
I joined Innovend in July 2024, working closely with their team to enhance the software powering these machines. My main focus was developing and refining the system that runs on each machine’s hardware. The machines themselves are super intuitive, equipped with touchscreens that allow users and technicians to interact easily. They are connected to Innovend’s central backend, VendingWeb, which is an online platform that manages everything from product tracking to error analysis and machine configurations.
As a software developer, I had the opportunity to dive into their tech stack, which is built with Javascript, Typescript, Vue.js, Node.js, Python and PHP. I contributed to both the frontend and backend, ensuring smooth operations across all machines. I introduced an entire new system built with Node.js to improve a large chunk of the machine ecosystem. The project management was originally handled with JIRA, but we quickly transitioned to Monday.com for more streamlined task tracking. I also slid into the role of SCRUM master and introduced retrospectives into the team.
Working with Innovend not only hones and improves my technical and soft skills but also allows me to contribute to an innovative product that is redefining how we think about smart vending and locker systems.
